Spread Kindness Like Glitter: 7 ways to sprinkle this February
February is not only the month of LOVE… it’s also National Random Acts of Kindness Month.
Can you imagine how our world might change if everyone practiced more kindness?
At times, kindness seems to be a dying art. Yet practicing random acts of kindness only enhances magnanimity, both inside your sacred circle as well as out into the world. Like a human wave of generosity—just as we've seen with the outpouring of support for our Southern California neighbors—when we lead with love, we inspire others to pass it on, one random act of kindness at a time!
In this month of LOVE, I’d like to offer you 7 simple ways to start your own wave of kindness:
🧡 Share What You Can
Recent events in Southern California have shown us that generosity comes in many forms. Whether it's donating gently-used clothes to fire-affected families, contributing non-perishable foods to local food banks, or volunteering your time at your local community center, every contribution matters. You don't need to make grand gestures–even small acts of sharing can create a meaningful impact. Consider setting aside a few hours each month to volunteer, organize a small donation drive in your neighborhood, or simply help a neighbor in need. The beauty of giving is that it creates a circle of support that strengthens our entire community. When we share our resources, time, and energy, we weave a stronger social fabric.
🧡 Listen
The greatest gift you can give someone is your full presence. How can you listen with your whole being this month? You might pause and breathe before you speak. (Remember: An answer may not be what’s needed.) You don’t always have to fix another person’s problems; often, your presence and witness is enough. How can you open yourself to listen to the entire thought, the entire feeling… and possibly the pain that only your intuition is able to sense in another person? Practice NOT interrupting with your own projections and advice. And if a response is called for, try to channel your Higher Self!
🧡 Give others space
We all need space to thrive and be ourselves. How can you offer space to meet people where they are? This isn’t only required when it’s convenient for you. How can you show respect and love… even when it’s really hard? Giving those in your orbit the compassionate space to believe and own their own way of living shows them that you trust, appreciate, and honor their spiritual journey. Space is spiritual.
🧡 Keep your promises
But remember that not all promises are created equal. You have limited time and resources, and it’s not dishonest to prioritize your promises by honoring the ones that are closest to your heart. Work from the inside out and remember that the most important promises start with the ones you make to yourself.
🧡 Be Tolerant
This is a tricky one: Tolerance starts by practicing more self-compassion. No one is perfect. If you make an error, admit it and try again in a different way. Then pass the idea of being self-compassionate on to those you love! When we’re tolerant toward ourselves and others, we give people an opportunity to redeem themselves, so they, too, can have a chance to try again. Mistakes are just opportunities to choose again!
🧡 Smile, just because
I make a point of smiling at random strangers to see if I can transform a frown into a smile… and I can report that it works 85% of the time! “A smile is the universal language of kindness.” (William Arthur Ward). As you walk around your neighborhood, run errands, or pass a stranger in the frozen food aisle, look them in the eye and smile. It’s a simple way to disarm even the grumpiest soul. A smile can open a heart faster than a key can open a lock. Light up the world with your smile.
🧡 Compliment someone.
Never admire quietly… If you see something you admire in another person, tell them! We’re a fragile bunch, and a positive remark that acknowledges a superpower or thoughtful action can help build rapport, boost self-esteem, and create a positive atmosphere that elevates the energy of any room. Give compliments that come from your heart! Give compliments that are specific to the person you're complimenting (i.e. "You are a great listener," or "I admire the positivity you brought to this situation,” or "You have such creative ideas!"). Compliments can both brighten someone’s day and benefit the giver (YOU)!
BE a contagious force for kindness by SPRINKLING your own unique brand of LOVE, FORGIVENESS, and GRATITUDE out into the world. And if anyone asks how they can repay you, just say: “Pass it on.”
When you make kindness your norm,
you really are making the world a better place!
🧡Sending out love and light!
Until next time,
💫 Andrea
