Self-Sovereignty: Your Guide to Being Gloriously "Full of Yourself"
Self-sovereignty is the art of building an architecture (aka: daily practices) that will support the boundaries of your internal energy force…Yet most of us are so busy filling everyone else’s tank, that we fail to notice when we are running dangerously close to empty. As Buddha wisely said, "You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection."
No one wants to be accused of “being full of themselves”…but its time we REFRAMED that perspective!
Oprah Winfrey actually takes it as a compliment when someone says she's full of herself. Why? Because as she puts it: "When you're full... I'm full, I'm overflowing. I have so much to offer, and so much to give."
Imagine treating yourself with the same generous spirit you extend to others. Not the "sorry-I-exist" energy we often default to, but the "watch-me-shine" energy that ignites the renewable resources that exist with in YOU. That's self-sovereignty in action – and yes, it's supposed to feel a little uncomfortable at first.
The Art of Getting "Full of Yourself"
Think of self-sovereignty as your soul's GPS. It's about:
Owning your feelings (even the messy ones)
Setting boundaries (without the guilt trip of disappointing someone)
Filling your own cup first (oxygen mask principle, anyone?)
Here's the fun part: this journey usually starts when you're completely fed up. You know that moment – when you're running on fumes, your emotional bank account is overdrawn, and suddenly your react to life instead of responding to it. Maybe it's after a heartbreak, or when someone crosses a line, or when you finally realize that "someday" is actually today.
The Name Game: Your Emotional Treasure Hunt
The first step in my Name, Claim and Reframe® process is simple but powerful: NAME those emotions. Yes, even the uncomfortable ones. Actually, especially those.
Think of it as becoming an emotional detective. When something triggers you, ask yourself:
"What about this situation is making me want to hide under my desk?"
"Which emotions are throwing a party in my chest right now?"
"What personal boundary just got trampled?"
Your Self-Sovereignty Toolkit
Remember: self-sovereignty is basically triage for your soul. It's about taking care of your emotional state first, so you can show up as your full, magnificent self. When you're feeling depleted or triggered, try this quick check-in:
Pause and name the emotion (without judging it)
Ask yourself what you need right now (”What does my inside self need right now?”)
Take one small action to honor that need (yes, naps count as does a kind but clear “No thank you”)
The Plot Twist: Your Struggles Are Your Superpowers
Here's the beautiful irony: those uncomfortable feelings you're trying to avoid… They're actually your inner wisdom sending you a memo. Each time you acknowledge them, you're building your self-sovereignty muscles and loving yourself from the inside out.
Thank you, Kristin Neff, for this practical reminder: “Suffering is part of life. May I be kind to myself in this moment."
Your Permission to Shine from the Inside OUT
Being "full of yourself" isn't about ego – it's about being so grounded in your worth that you naturally overflow with generosity. It's about creating space for all parts of yourself, including (and especially) the parts you'd rather keep in the shadows. Remember: When you dare to embrace your whole self, shadows and all, you're not just filling yourself up – you're lighting the way for others to do the same.
Here's to being gloriously, unapologetically full of yourself!
With love from the inside out,
🧡Andrea
